On the Downslide:
There are real obstacles remaining and including people’s willingness to adapt, even if the technology is ironed out. Here are just some of the core issues.

  • Things could get worse before they get better (with mix of CAV and non-CAV’s on the road at the same time
  • Congestion can increase if people opt for them over ride-sharing/public transportation options
  • More road miles, means more wear and tear mean more CAV’s breaking down
  • More urban sprawl / parking ticket revenues could decrease
  • Drivers would need to be retrained / re-certified in operating a CAV
  • Current cost of sensors
